Allen Onyeama's Ordeal: Is it a crime to be an Igbo in Nigeria? — Fani-Kayode asks

Former Minister of Aviation and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to the indictment against Air Peace boss, Allen Onyema, by the United States Justice Department over perceived dubious financial transactions to the tune of $20 million.

Onyema, who was praised nationwide for helping to evacuate Nigerian victims of xenophobia from South Africa, was indicted Last week by the US authorities for allegedly moving more than $20 million from Nigeria through US bank accounts in a scheme involving “false documents” based on the purchase of airplanes.

Onyema was indicted alongside Ejiroghene Eghagha, the airline’s chief of administration and finance, who is said to have committed aggravated identity theft in connection with the scheme.

On November 19, a US court was reported to have issued a warrant to arrest Onyema and authorised US marshals service to bring him into custody.

But reacting on his official twitter handle on Tuesday, Fani-Kayode recalled how most prominent successful Igbo business men had suffered persecution under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, he wonder if it is a crime to be an Igbo  in Nigeria.

He tweeted, "First it was Cletus Ibeto of Ibeto cement, then it was Ifeanyi Uba of Capital Oil, then it was Innocent Chukwuma of Innoson Motors and now it is Allen Oyema of Air Peace.
