EFCC Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu |
Magu, who held a press conference in Abuja, had lamented the high rate of corruption in the country especially among the youths who perpetrate internet fraud.
However, when asked to give an update on the petition submitted against Tinubu, the EFCC chairman angrily responded saying, “You want me to talk about a petition here ? Next question please.”
The convener of Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju, had petitioned the EFCC to investigate the source of money allegedly conveyed in bullion vans to the home of the APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu on the eve of the 2019 presidential election.
EFCC is empowered by law to prevent, investigate, prosecute and penalise economic and financial crimes and is charged with the responsibility of enforcing the provisions of other laws and regulations relating to economic and financial crimes.
“To the best of our knowledge, Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a private citizen who ordinarily should not be seen with a convoy of Bullion Vans,” Adeyanju said after submitting the petition.
Adeyanju wants the anti-graft agency to answer these questions: “What are Bullion Vans doing in the house of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu?
“Has the commission, based on its core mandates, investigated the source of the Bullion Vans?
“Is Bola Ahmed Tinubu house, now a bank where Bullion Vans now take money to?”
Meanwhile, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has rubbished the petition submitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, against its National Leader, Bola Tinubu.
Speaking with Daily Trust, the spokesperson of the party, Abiodun Salami said: “Let them come up with the proof. The man is a private citizen and he has been out of government for the past 12 years.
“If he has decided to spend his money on his party, how is that a problem? Let them come up with a proof that somebody’s money is missing.”
