Having lashed out at former President Goodluck Jonathan for his role in the failure to rescue all abducted Chibok girls by Boko Haram despite being offered help by the British government under PM David Cameron, Muslim Rights Concern group (MURIC) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to not make the very same mistake his predecessor (Jonathan) made by failing to rescue the over 200 abducted Chibok girls during his time as President.

The group made its appealed to President Buhari via its director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, on Friday 11th September 2019. It asked the Buhari administration to double its efforts to rescue the girls who have been in captivity for about 5 years.

“We strongly appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to double government’s efforts aimed at securing the freedom of the Chibok girls. It is now five and a half years since these girls were taken away. We are in grief. Our nights are nightmarish. Horrible fears envelop our days. Please bring back our girls," MURIC said.

MURIC urged Nigerians to intensify their prayers for both the Chibok girls and Leah Sharibu.

It stated, “We urge Nigerians to intensify their prayers for the safe return of the Chibok girls. We must also remember Leah Sharibu, the lone Christian girl who was denied freedom by the insurgents.”

MURIC had earlier demanded that former President Goodluck Jonathan apologize to Nigerians for playing politics with the abducted girls instead of accepting foreign offer made by the British government.

It said, “The best Jonathan can do now is to apologize to Nigerians for the Chibok debacle. Jonathan should just swallow his pride and eat the humble pie. There are no two ways to it. An unreserved apology is what Nigerians are expecting and we will keep pounding the ex-president until he does the needful.

Jonathan who was hailed for his decision to concede defeat against Buhari in the 2015 presidential election, has enjoyed some quiet moments save attacks directed at his administration by the Buhari Presidency, has seen himself dragged into a 5 year old issue by memoir released by the former British Prime Minister.

The former President has in a swift reaction, deny any wrong doing as he faults Cameron's claims as published in his (Cameron) memoir.
