Abacha Loot: We have been scammed!" — Reactions trail disbursement of recovered loot

Questions have been asked countless times on the whereabouts of recovered loots since the beginning of the Buhari's administration. But to no surprises, the Buhari Presidency felt it owe Nigerians no explanation.

However, as the Buhari administration continue to tour the world in search of loans, Nigerians can't help but mount more pressure on the current government to account for all looted funds it boasted to have recovered throughout its anti corruption crusade.

Finally, it appears the Buhari administration has obliged, but drew the ire of Nigerians when it claimed the recovered funds (Abacha's loot) of over $100m was used to empower poor Nigerians.

In an address delivered by Buhari's Special Advicer on Social Investments, Mrs Maryam Uwais, she said from August 2018 to the October, the total amount disbursed from the Abacha loot was $76,538,530 and $27,099,028 from the IDA credit.

Uwais, who said the funds, which were specifically being disbursed to beneficiaries of the National Cash Transfer Programme, a component of the National Social Investment Programme , noted that the gesture was positively changing the fortune of many Nigerians.

She said the decision to distribute the Abacha loot and the IDA funds to poor and vulnerable Nigerians, who were mined from a National Social Register, collated by the National Social Safety Net Coordinating Office, was reached by the Swiss government, the World Bank and the Federal Government.

But Nigerians won't take Uwais 'cheap' submission, and therefore, demand that names of beneficiaries from a so called "National Social Register", be made public.
