#Xenophobia: Don't retaliate, we are the ones to suffer most — FG begs Nigerians

FG call for calm as it seek solution to attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
Nigerians were left fuming over the laxity and seemingly indifferent attitude of the Buhari administration on the continuous attacks against Nigerians living in South Africa.

While the President recently succumbed to pressure and promised to send a Special Envoy to have a talk with President Ramaphosa of South Africa, the presidency has called on Nigerians to not take matters into their own hands by staging retaliatory attacks against South African businesses in the country.

According the Federal Government in a statement via the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Nigerians stand to loose more should South African companies operating in the country be attacked.

The Federal Government did acknowledged the severity of the situation, but said Nigerians should exercise restraint and not consider retaliation as a viable solution to the problem.

The Minister assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is already taking decisive measures to put an end to the persistent xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.

"President Muhammadu Buhari has dispatched a Special Envoy to convey to his South African counterpart, President Cyril Ramaphosa, his concerns and also interact with his South African counterpart on the situation. ”

”Also, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, acting on the instruction of Mr. President, has summoned the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria to get a brief on the situation; express Nigeria’s displeasure over the treatment of her citizens; and secure assurance of the safety of their lives and property,” the Minister said.
