Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu |
Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, a former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Minister of Works under the regime of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has in an interview with the SUN, rubbished claims that the National Leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, serves as a godfather in Lagos State for two decades.
The former PDP chieftain who is now a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress, APC, said contrary to popular belief, Tinubu is more of a leader than a godfather in the State. He said running a party requires leadership and funding, and due to the current poverty rate in the country, Tinubu has been the major financier of the party.
In response to question that Tinubu has been one man calling the shots for two decades in Lagos State, Adeseye said, "What you describe as godfatherism is the basis of African community. Go and check it out.
"Somebody must provide leadership. Somebody must provide the funds. Our level of development has not enabled us to be so independent.
"We are a developing nation and we are not as sophisticated as the advanced democracies. The level of poverty is high – 95 per cent."
