It is hard to tell who is more confused between the President and his vice — Sani

Senator Shehu Sani mocks Buhari and Osinbajo over contradiction.

Tribunal ruling aside, President Muhammadu Buhari has been very vocal about his determination to rid Nigeria of poverty. The president although widely accused of anti people policies, will not be carried away by negative sentiments against his administration.



To put the record straight, the President wants to lift at least, 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next ten years. The fact that the president whom critics accused of suffering from dementia, is able to keep that number to mind, screams 'honesty and sincerity.' But here's the issue, the President and his vice Osinbajo seem to be on a different page on this.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has on many occasions, acknowledged the state of poverty in the country, claiming over 100 million Nigerians languish in poverty. He however, assured that the Buhari administration is seeking ways to lift a significant number of these poor people out of poverty in the next few years.




However, for whatever reason, the vice president appears to have changed his tune with regards to the actual figure they intend to lift out of poverty. It might have dawn on him that lifting more than half the population of the country out of poverty in ten years time is tad too ambitious and unrealistic. He therefore, decided to cut down the figure by a massive 90 percent.


Whether the latest change in tune is as a result of a unanimous decision between the vice president and the president himself, is unclear. But the contradiction has given critics of the Buhari administration something to talk about.



Senator Sani was quick to pounce on this one by mockingly saying the contradiction is a clear indication that the gap in thoughts and visions between the president and his vice is 90 million apart.

The former Kaduna State Senator said, "Baba said hundred million would be lifted out of poverty in 10 years; The VP said ten million would be lifted out of poverty in ten years, there’s a 90 million gap in their thoughts and visions."


It is yet to be seen how the Buhari administration intends to eradicate poverty in the country. One thing we do know for sure is that the current government's tradermoni initiative and N-Power has been ongoing since Buhari came to power in 2015.
