WSJ Report: Let not weeds overan their tombs — Sani reacts

Sen. Shehu Sani reacts to report of secret burial of troops in maiduguri.
When you think waking up to some good news in the country is possible, you're then greeted with reports that the bodies of over a thousand slained soldiers fighting terrorism up north, were secretly buried at night using "flashlights into trenches dug by infantrymen or local villagers paid a few dollars per shift."

It's certainly a sad way to start your day especially when you had your hopes high. But in today's Nigeria, anything is possible.

As you'd expect, there has been no shortage of reactions to this heart breaking news, despite the Nigerian Army denying the WSJ's report.

The People's Democratic Party and its presidential candidate in the recent February 23 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, expressed shock at the report and called for investigation into the claims published by by the US based Newspapers.

Senator Shehu Sani also added his voice to the list saying the report is very disturbing and that the slained troops deserve better.

He said, "Let not our heroes be buried in the dark. Let not our heroes be buried without their deserved drums of honour.Let not our heroes be buried without the trumpet of our gratitude. Let not our heroes be buried without the comets crowning their valor. Let not the weeds overan their tombs."

The Buhari administration remains adamant that it has technically defeated the terrorist by limiting it's range of attacks. But situations on ground begs to differ. The terrorist group still boasts of sacking Nigerian troops and taking over military barracks in the northeastern state.

Whether or north anything meaningful will come out of this report by WSJ, remains to be seen.
