Nigeria needs more of Sheikh Gumi than church leaders who play dumb — Omokri

When silence becomes a crime, it's easy to understand the current state of the nation under the leadership of president Mohammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It may also interest you that a party which just had its first shot at power, would have done enough to cement its place in the heart of Nigerians. But alas! Nigerians having tasted the change sold to them by the APC in 2015, would rather return back to Egypt.



The country has witnessed different kinds of protests before, but what's coming might just be the end of the whole saga.

A protest tagged "Revolution Now" will soon take off, and the fact that its leading figure is someone who helped brought Buhari to power, is what makes it even more interesting. It is an indication that Buhari's camp is severely losing weight as his supporters are said to have "seen the light."



However, while Nigerians are speaking even more louder against the misrule of the current administration, it appears some powerful leaders in the Christian Church prefer to rather play dumb or indifferent for reasons best known to them.

This obviously didn't go down well with those who have been ardent critics of the Buhari administration and had remained vocal against government’s misrule and threats against Christians in the country.


Reno Omokri expressed his disappointment over indifference shown by influencial church leaders like Pastor Adeboye, Kumuyi and others who chose to remain silent at such a crucial time in the history of the country.

Muslim leaders, like Sheikh Gumi, have, in my opinion, done more for Nigeria, than men like Adeboye or Kumuyi who have shown they can talk, but only when it happens to them, not when it happens to the masses. Not so Gumi. It has not happened to him, but he has SPOKEN! #RenosDarts

Unlike the individuals mentioned above, the former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, praised Muslim leaders like Sheikh Gumi for speaking up against Buhari's misrule despite being a Muslim and from the North where the president comes from.



Omokri said, "Muslim leaders, like Sheikh Gumi, have, in my opinion, done more for Nigeria, than men like Adeboye or Kumuyi who have shown they can talk, but only when it happens to them, not when it happens to the masses. Not so Gumi. It has not happened to him, but he has SPOKEN!"

It is unclear why prominent Church leaders chose to be silent, preferring to call for prayers instead of speaking truth to those in power. Ironically, Adeboye is seen as a hypocrite by many for standing up against former president Jonathan, but chose to go soft on the current government.
