Ex-military General asks Buhari and the Army to apologize to Nigerians for 'International embarrassment'

Reaction still trails the recently published report by Wall Street Journal (WSJ), claiming that the Nigerian Army secretly laid to rest the bodies of over a thousand soldiers in a secret graveyard at Maimalari in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The report by the American based News outlet, sparked outrage in the country with many calling for an investigation into the report.



And now an ex-military General Ola Ishola Williams (Rtd), in an interview published by The Sun, refer to the act revealed by the WSJ Report as an International embarrassment and called on the Buhari government to appologize to Nigerians and the family of those affected.

"The Army and the Federal Government should apologise to the family of the slained soldiers," Ishola said



"They should also apologise to Nigerians for the international embarrassment, and shame they have brought to Nigeria through their callous and cruel action," he continued.




The former army chief expressed sadness saying slain soldiers deserve a decent funeral and not something as shameful as the WSJ Report.

He said, "I read the pathetic story by the wife of one of the fallen soldiers who insisted on being taken to where her husband was laid, and they just took her to the place and showed her a plank to indicate where her husband's graveyard. This is an act of cruelty on the part of the Nigerian Army. It is a big shame."


" That report is very sad, and very unfortunate. It doesn’t speak well of both the Nigeria Army, and the Federal Government. It showed that our leaders, and the Army authorities don’t care about our soldiers.

"It showed that our leaders don’t have compassion for those fallen heroes fighting to defend Nigeria from attacks by the insurgents. The report is an indictment on the Army authorities and the Federal Government."
