Don't rage yet, see reasons why Wike is against Revolution Protest

Wike said Rivers State won't be part it Revolution Protest.
Revolution is coming! Don't know how much of this you've heard in the past week. But you certainly woke up to the news that Mr. Sowore, the leading figure of the #RevolutionNow protest was picked up by the DSS late last week.

A little visit to Twitter and you'd find the hash tag #RevolutionNow and #FreeSowore among the top trending topics on the social media platform. This goes to show how much hype this Revolution protest has generated. Yet, not all states are subscribing to it.

A recent statement issued by the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike in Port Harcourt earlier today, says the State will not be part of the protest and warned anyone who intends to participate in the protest to stay off the streets across the state.

The governor said: “Rivers State does not subscribe to what the #RevolutionNow protest represents and Rivers State is not part of the protest”.

He directed security agencies in the state to arrest anybody involved in the #RevolutionNow protest and also take all necessary steps to prosecute such persons immediately. Wike also urged parents to ensure that their children are not misled by agents of Sowore to participate in the illegal protest.

“All council chairmen are directed to be at alert. If they suspect any illegal gathering, they should report to the security agencies for immediate action,” he said.

Whoever is surprised that Governor Wike is distancing himself from the RevolutionNow protest obviously forgot in a hurry, the events of the recently concluded presidential and governorship elections in Rivers State.

Wike's refusal to subscribe to the protest could be down to two very reasons, with the first being the fact that the protest's leading figure Omoyele Sowore, is also the founder of the AAC, a political party used as a tool by the APC, to cause trouble in the state's last governorship election.

Another reason could be the fear of the protest being hijacked by some powerful politicians who would do anything to either cease power from the governor or sabotage his government. The governor obviously doesn't want to subject the State and his administration to situations similar to what happened in the recent presidential and governorship elections held in the state.

But these are all pure speculations. There could be other reasons to not be part of something many Nigerians and political analysts consider as necessary and timely.
