Buhari will be remembered for his dumb policies — Sani

Senator Shehu Sani
The rage over the Nigeria Central Bank's decision to ban importation of milk into the country is yet to die down, and keeps getting more interesting by the day.

Since Buhari's emergence as president in 2015, his administration has continuously lamented the lack of funds to run his government saying his predecessor handed over an empty treasury and an economy in comatose.

The Buhari administration therefore, continuously seek ways to cut expenses and what it regards as excessive outflows of forex due to importation of goods already produced in the country.

Long story short, not everyone is a fan or Buhari's policy of banning imports especially on goods in high demand, but which the country cannot sufficiently meet. Analysts had argued that doing so only inflict more pains on the average Nigerian who will have to deal with high cost of goods due to scarcity.

Former Minister of Education and BBOG leading figure, Oby Ezekwesili, has been vocal and outrightly condemned the proposed ban on milk importation by the CBN.

The former minister accused the Buhari government of speaking from both sides of its mouth. She wondered how banning the importation of milk, will take 100 million people out of poverty, something the Buhari government promised in its June 12 address.

Senator Shehu Sani who seemed to have regained his Sanity since dropping the broom and losing his re-election bid in the last general elections, has also been very vocal and actively criticize the Buhari administration for its bad policies and disregard for the rule of law.

In his recent reaction to news that China is set to export used cars to Nigeria, the former Senator said it would be dumb of Buhari to ban import of important goods like milk and textile, while allowing the dumping of used cars into the country.

He tweets, "To ban the importation of Textiles and Milk to ‘protect our local industries’ and allow the importation of used cars from China is a dumb economic policy."

The Buhari administration has been accused of policies which tends to do more harm than good to a population that is already devastated by extreme poverty and insecurity.

But the government has been notorious in its approach to issues with little to no regards to the wailings of Nigerians.
