Fani-Kayode is a diehard critic of the Buhari administration. |
It will be greatly strange to be in the dark to why herdsmen make the news on a regular basis. Well it's simple, their 'son' is on the throne. According to the regional system of government which we seem to be operating in the country, electing a president means being ruled by everything the president represents. In other words, we are currently being ruled by herdsmen since Buhari is a herdsman.
Speaking of empowerment and superiority, this now brings us to the issues of carnage done by lethal herdsmen with little or nothing being done to restore peace and guarantee security in the country. The Fulanis feel so powerful that they threaten other ethnicities in broad daylight and nothing will happen. Neither will the government press charges nor will it caution the Fulanis for their unguarded utterances.
Femi Fani-Kayode, who is a diehard critic of the Buhari administration, has re-echoed the fearlessness of Buhari's kinsmen who seem unconcerned by the fact that presidential tenures only last for four years. In fact, it's almost as if there's no limit to Buhari's tenure.
Fani-Kayode reacted to a statement credited to Siddika Gidado, a chieftain of Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria MACBAN, that herdsmen will take over South East by force for refusing to release their lands for grazing.
Gidado's statement reads, "Southern grass is sweeter for our cows than northern grass! Since the Igbo are claiming to be stubborn and they refuse to give us their land in peace it will be taken by force and the entire South East will be raided and taken over by herdsmen. The South East will boil any moment from now. It is an insult that the Igbo do not value anything that has to do with cow, only their business and money and yet they eat cow meat."
In his own reaction, Kayode simply prayed that God saves the South from those he described as "bloodthirsty barbarians and savage terrorists!"
Not until recently, Fulanis never felt so empowered. Yes, Buhari is not the only Fulani to rule Nigeria, but the manner in which he goes about things gives the impression as though he'll be the last one to ever rule Nigeria — It's like to the Fulanis its either now or never. How Nigeria is one and capable of overcoming its differences, is left to the imagination.
