President Muhammadu Buhari will will be sworn in for a second term of 4 years on May 29. |
While the President did address a handful of questions, the President did made sure his trademark blame game as critics would say, became a major highlight of an interview the nation's opposition party the PDP, said is orchestrated by the President.
The President in the interview, took aim at the leaders of the national assembly accusing them of not doing enough to support his administration especially in the timely passage of budgets. But the house of Reps Speaker, Honorable Yakubu Dogara has since debunked the claims saying the President is the architect of his own failure as such, should not look for scapegoats.
While reactions continue to trail Monday night's interview, the PDP as expected, has added its voice to the mix by accusing the President of not using his "orchestrated" interview to address Nigerians on corruption of great proportions which saw trillions of public funds stolen under his watch.
The PDP says, "President Muhammadu Buhari's resort to blame game and false performance claims, in his media interview, has further confirmed that the last four years of his administration smacks of failure and incompetence.
"The PDP notes that it was an internationally accepted position that all critical sectors in our country performed abysmally in the last four years because of the incompetence of President Buhari's administration, adding that it was unfortunate that instead of accepting responsibility for the failures of his administration, Mr. President is looking for scapegoats where there are none.
"President Buhari should end his showboating on the war against corruption," the PDP says. "He must admit that he failed because his administration, which swims in ocean of corruption, cannot fight corruption. This is an administration which thrives in concealment; under which over N14 trillion belonging to Nigerians have been frittered by officials, who have not been investigated or prosecuted." the party said in its press statement.
The PDP while calling out the President on areas he failed to address during his interview such as concern for the sufferings of the masses due to the country's economic woes and high rate of insecurity in the country, reminded Nigerians on the qualities of its Presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
"It is for this reason that the PDP presented a presidential candidate and deputy with strong knowledge of the economy and social order in order to rescue our nation from the dire straits into which she had been thrown due to poor leadership in the last four years," it said.
Atiku is still in court as he seeks redress on the outcome of the recent Presidential election which saw Buhari emerge as winner. There has been calls for the suspension of tomorrow's inauguration pending the outcome of the court case against Buhari's re-election. But so far it seem the inauguration will still hold nonetheless.
