Bob Iger’s position on Georgia’s abortion bill raises concern on what Disney really stands for

The abortion debate is still alive and fierce. Laws are being passed, clinics are shutting down, and protesters are on the streets in their huge numbers clamoring for what they tagged as "My body, my Choice". But what's more interesting than entertainment companies also picking sides?

That's exactly what is at stake at the moment. Netflix on Tuesday already threatened to “rethink” its investment in Georgia — one of the states to pass anti-abortion law in the United States, should the law goes into effect. To make it point blank, at least almost all of Hollywood is on the side of abortion.

While non of these come as a surprise, there is this one particular development that appears more shocking leaving fans to shake their heads in disbelief. Well it's not really clear whether it is an official position taken by the company, or merely a personal opinion by the company's chairman and CEO. Ok, enough of beating about the bush. I'm talking about the Bob Iger of Walt Disney Company.

Iger while speaking to Reuters, said it would be “difficult” to continue business relationships in Georgia following the passing of the state’s newest abortion laws.

“I don’t see how it’s practical for us to continue to shoot there,” said Bob Iger who was asked how he feels about Georgia’s abortion bill, and whether Disney would keep producing there.

“I think if it becomes law, it’ll be very difficult to produce there. I rather doubt we will. … Many people who work for us will not want to work there, and we’ll have to heed there wishes in that regard.

“Right now, we’re watching it very carefully. I guess there’s some speculation it could be enacted sometime after the first of year. I think it’s also likely it’ll be challenged in the courts, and that could delay it,” Iger said.

Georgia’s new Living Infants Fairness and Equality (LIFE) Act prohibits abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected. Iger’s comments come amid Disney’s push to bring its family-oriented content into the ever-expanding universe of streaming services.

What's weird about Iger’s statement according to Disney fans is the fact that Disney is wildly regarded as a platform that loves kids.

One concern fan said, "Disney is no longer the Disney of Walt Disney. Very sad to see something that a man dedicated his life to making children happy and now it supports murdering them."

With big entertainment companies seemingly on the side of Pro-choice advocates, it remains to be seen whether or not anti-abortion laws in the US will stand.
